Copeland String Quartet Highlights Family-Friendly Concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ambler on June 12
May 7, 2011 – Ambler, PA – A new tradition is set to begin in Ambler on June 12. St. John’s Lutheran Church, known in the community for its music, served up in classical, jazz and gospel formats, will host its first family-friendly chamber music concert featuring the Copeland String Quartet at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 12. Admission is free, and everyone is welcome. A free will offering will be accepted to benefit the church’s Capital Campaign, and all are invited to a reception immediately following the concert.
The Copeland String Quartet, all long-time members of the Delaware Symphony Orchestra, will present a program of music that balances its impressive musical repertoire with audience interaction. “We’ve found that this approach succeeds in fostering greater pleasure and understanding of the music for both adults and children, and part of St. John’s spiritual mission is to encourage that love of classical music,” says violist Nina Cottman, a Norristown native.
The quartet was formed in 2003 and is named for its sponsor, Tatiana Copeland, the grand niece of Sergei Rachmaninoff. It has played in concert venues throughout Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania and New Jersey, as well as at colleges and universities in the area. In addition the musicians play with other local orchestras like the Kennett Symphony, the Reading Symphony and the Philly Pops.
